AFP to get new attack choppers with laser designators capable of firing laser-guided rockets
July 16, 2013- Department of National Defense (DND) through it's Special Bids and Awards Commitee said that the eight new attack helicopters to be acquired will have Laser Designation capable of firing laser-guided rockets.
The laser designator is a laser light source provides targeting for laser-guided bombs, rockets, missiles, or precision artillery munitions.
Boeing Company, Eurocopter Group, AgustaWestland NV and MD Helicopters, Inc. where among the four aerospace companies who have acquired the required bidding documents.
The DND attack helicopter program has a budget of P3.44 billion and will be sourced from the General Appropriations Act and the AFP Modernization Act Trust Fund of 2000.

The AH will best serve the Close Air Support roles, as stated in the requirements, if it will be armed with Turret Gun for precision.
